rainbow wonderings

the boat on the beach
painted in a rainbow hurricane
can take us anywhere
we want to be
but you’re not here
on this solitude of sand
and the rainbow is wasted
on everything I imagined
for the two of us
I pull it into the waves
and raise the sail
as the wind is caught
my heart billows
cresting the final roller
the sea is becomes calm
as our love shares
your affection
on my heart
come find me on the
placid ocean
drifting with the rainbow
doldrums, hoping the soft
breath you might wield
will provide the wind
to fill our sails
and sees us forward
on our adventure

the flag spins

the flag spins you
into my heart, too
young for you I
tried to be more
adult but it wasn’t
necessary, we were
both still kids
exploring what we
didn’t understand,
your face is music
to my eyes, to this
day, I don’t understand
why I did what I did,
selfishness, it was
nearly impossible
to find anything
else at that age,
I’m sorry I didn’t
put the seat down

heart of steel

heart once made of stone
now made of steel
like a sieve draining every
ounce of joy and love
ever contained in that
hard cold organ once held
firmly within your chest

now it lays slowly beating
at your feet, pumping out
the last bits of evidence
we ever existed, waiting
for one final “aahhh”

without it now you carry
on, that weight lifted from
your chest, I am left to pick
up the pieces of our
scattered romance, shattered
across this lonely room
