my unreality

there’s a buzzing in my brain
there’s a ringing in my ears
there’s a pounding in my chest
someone said your name
i smelled your perfume
i spun around in circles
you weren’t in reach
but you felt so so close

my unreality
rapped me on the knuckles
slapped me across the face
but not hard enough
to bring tears

no,
that single drop on my cheek
came from your absence

one of me

you are one of me
and i am the other one
no matter where we are
walking this great earth
no matter how near or
how far there is
a connection that
shall never be severed
for you are one of me
and i am the other

born from love

born from love
remaining
in friendship

days across states
the falls in the rain
discovering a joyful place
wrapped in nature’s splendor
a harbor called Friday

explored in love
recalled as pieces of my soul
that only you can touch

those same pieces I treasure
and visit frequently
holding our love and friendship
close to hy heart

where is it?

where is it?
this ideal
that we talked about
that we swore upon
that we struggled to uphold

it is a broken dream
that only rattles around
hurting our souls

it got caught in
some memories
and choked on
expectations

fantasies of that
pure, bygone love
disintegrated right
in front of our eyes

what are we to do
with our misspent desires?

is there anything
to be salvaged
from our
broken egos
crushed desires
and
demolished hearts?

distractions

i try so hard to push you
to the back of my mind
where i might not notice you
as much,
where you won’t trip me up,
but every turn,
page or corner,
brings you to the front
where i have to read the words
or see your shape in shadows,
you are in everything,
fleeting glimpse,
lines on the page,
sweet sweet memory of
your taste on my tongue,
perfume on my collar,
distractions…
i can’t get enough of
